Advice on handling sticky situation with woman in my community.?
My husband started a few different companies at the beginning of the year. For one of the companies, he brought on a woman in our community who wasnt working and her husband was having a difficult time staying employed. He brought her on as an independent contractor, only to be paid if she produced. The company is no longer.
Question, he gave her a $1200 laptop to use and to either give back or pay for. She hasnt done either and we cant afford to just give it to her. She will not return any of our emails stating that we need it. The thing is, she is a neighbor and knows she’ll be running into us. How would you handle this situation?
P.S. Although they are on hard times, she drives around in a new Suburban and her husband has a large Cadillac. They were also members of our $500 neighborhood pool this summer.
Do you have a written contract? Take it to the small claims court. I don’t think its a question of etiquette any longer, they are taking advantage.
